Why This Cherry Arnold Palmer Will Be Your New Obsession

This isn’t just a drink; it’s an experience, a symphony of flavors that will keep you coming back for more.
The secret lies in the bold, layered flavors. We start with crisp, homemade lemonade, ensuring maximum freshness and control over sweetness. Next, a rich, homemade cherry compote adds a depth of fruity goodness that sets this drink apart from any ordinary Arnold Palmer. Finally, perfectly brewed iced tea brings it all together, creating a perfectly balanced and utterly delicious refreshment that captures the essence of summer in every sip.

Perfect for Any Summer Occasion
There’s truly nothing better than a cold, refreshing drink to combat a hot and humid summer day. This Cherry Arnold Palmer not only provides that much-needed chill but also delights with its complex, fresh, and sweet flavors. It’s ideal for those lazy afternoons spent lounging by the pool or enjoying a quiet moment on the porch.
But its versatility doesn’t stop there! This refreshment is an absolute showstopper for summer parties and gatherings. While it’s fantastic as a non-alcoholic option for all ages, it can also be easily transformed into a sophisticated summer cocktail. While a classic Arnold Palmer cocktail often features vodka, the unique cherry flavor profile of this drink calls for something a little different, something that truly complements the rich fruit notes.
For an adult version, we highly recommend adding a splash of brandy. The warm, fruity undertones of brandy perfectly marry with the sweet and tart cherries, creating a cocktail that is both elegant and incredibly delicious. A brandy-infused Cherry Arnold Palmer will undoubtedly be the highlight of your next summer celebration, leaving your guests impressed and singing its praises.

Crafting Your Perfect Cherry Arnold Palmer: Tips & Tricks
Making this delightful beverage from scratch allows you to control the quality of ingredients and adjust the sweetness to your preference. Here are some tips to ensure your Homemade Cherry Arnold Palmer is nothing short of perfect:
Choosing the Best Cherries for Your Compote
The success of your cherry compote hinges on the quality of your cherries. Opt for fresh, ripe, and plump cherries. Sweet varieties like Bing or Rainier are excellent, but tart cherries can also be used if you prefer a more piquant flavor profile, just be prepared to adjust the sugar content accordingly. Pitting cherries can be a bit of a task, but a cherry pitter makes it quick and easy. If you don’t have one, a chopstick or a pastry tip can work wonders!
Brewing the Ideal Iced Tea
For the iced tea component, using “iced tea bags” is recommended as they are typically larger and designed to brew a stronger tea concentrate perfect for diluting with ice and other liquids. If you’re using regular tea bags, you might need to use more to achieve the desired strength. Black tea is traditional for Arnold Palmers, providing a robust base that stands up well to the lemonade and cherry. Ensure your tea is properly steeped to extract maximum flavor, but avoid over-steeping, which can lead to bitterness. Allow the tea to cool before combining it with the other ingredients, especially if you’re using a glass pitcher to prevent thermal shock.
Mastering Your Homemade Lemonade
Freshly squeezed lemon juice is non-negotiable for a truly outstanding Arnold Palmer. Bottled lemon juice simply won’t yield the same vibrant, zesty flavor. Depending on the size and juiciness of your lemons, you might need 6-7 large ones to get enough juice. Taste your freshly squeezed lemonade before combining it with the compote and tea; this is your chance to fine-tune the sugar content to your exact liking. Remember, the cherry compote also adds sweetness, so start with a slightly less sweet lemonade base.
Assembling and Chilling for Optimal Flavor
Once your cherry compote, lemon juice, and iced tea are prepared and cooled, the assembly is straightforward. Combine all elements in a large pitcher, stir well, and then refrigerate. Chilling is crucial as it allows the flavors to meld beautifully, creating a more cohesive and refreshing taste. Serve over plenty of ice, perhaps with a garnish of fresh lemon slices and a few extra cherries for a touch of elegance.
Why Homemade is Always Best
Opting for a homemade Cherry Arnold Palmer over store-bought alternatives offers numerous advantages. You have complete control over the ingredients, meaning you can avoid artificial flavors, colors, and excessive sugars. This allows you to create a healthier, more natural beverage that still tastes incredible. Furthermore, the process of making it yourself, from pitting the cherries to brewing the tea, is a rewarding culinary experience that connects you more deeply with what you consume.

Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups fresh cherries pitted
- Juice from 1 lemon
- 1/2 Tbsp vanilla extract
- 1 to 1 1/2 cups sugar depending on how sweet you like it
- 6-7 large lemons
- 10-12 cups hot boiling water
- 4 iced tea bags*
Instructions
- Squeeze the juice from all the lemons and strain it through a fine strainer into a large pitcher.
- Pit the cherries and place them into a sauce pot, heated over medium heat. Add the fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon), vanilla extract, and sugar to the pot with the cherries. Stir well, cover, and let it simmer for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cherries have softened and released their juices. Once cooked, remove from heat and let the compote cool completely.
- Bring water to a boil, then remove from heat and add the iced tea bags. Allow the tea bags to steep until you reach a rich tea flavor, typically 5-7 minutes for iced tea. Remove the tea bags. (Let the tea cool down a bit before adding it to a glass pitcher to prevent cracking from high heat.)
- Add all the cooled cherry compote, including its juice, into the pitcher with the freshly strained lemon juice.
- Pour the cooled brewed tea into the pitcher and stir all ingredients thoroughly to combine.
- Cool and refrigerate the Cherry Arnold Palmer for at least 2-3 hours before serving to allow the flavors to fully meld and to ensure it’s perfectly chilled.
- *Note on tea bags: Use iced tea bags for best results, as they are typically larger and brew a stronger concentrate. If using regular tea bags, you may need to adjust the amount to achieve the desired tea strength.
