Irresistible Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts: Your New Favorite Indulgence

There are some treats that simply demand your full attention, and these incredible Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts are undeniably one of them. Imagine sinking your teeth into a perfectly golden, soft doughnut, its center bursting with a rich, creamy cheesecake filling. Each bite is then complemented by a luscious sweet glaze and a generous sprinkle of crunchy, crushed Oreo cookies. It’s a symphony of textures and flavors that’s surprisingly easy to achieve right in your own kitchen, promising a morning treat you absolutely will not want to miss!

Life with kids often means trading spontaneous adventures for carefully planned family fun. Concepts like “date nights” and “time for yourself” become precious, rare occurrences, often requiring meticulous planning. Even though my husband and I live relatively close to our parents, securing a monthly date night or a weekend getaway every few months feels like a major accomplishment. So, when the moon and the stars align just right, and we do get that rare chance to sneak away on a date, we make sure to take full advantage of every single moment, often celebrating with a delightful culinary treat.

A couple of weeks ago, fate smiled upon us. My husband happened to get a weekend day off, presenting a golden opportunity for some much-needed couple time. We quickly drove our little man to grandma’s, filled with the giddy excitement of a mini-escape. Our chosen activity? A movie marathon! We used to be frequent moviegoers, catching just about every film that hit the theaters. But that was back in the “BC” times (Before Child), a distant memory now. These days, we pick our movies with extreme care, determined not to waste a perfectly good date night on a bad film. Fortunately, this time, we got lucky: there were two movies out that we genuinely wanted to see. A double feature was definitely in order!

Spending five hours immersed in cinematic escapism demands proper fuel, and for us, that meant plenty of coffee. And of course, no date, especially one involving a movie, would be complete without a little treat. Doughnuts and coffee make a match made in heaven, offering a comforting warmth and a delightful burst of sweetness that was exactly what we needed. It was during this impromptu outing that I discovered my new obsession: an Oreo Cheesecake Doughnut. With its decadent filling and crunchy topping, it was so incredibly good, easily worth the million calories I’m sure it contained, and it left an unforgettable impression.

That blissful doughnut experience lingered in my mind long after our date. As a matter of fact, I liked these doughnuts so much that I was inspired to recreate them at home the very next weekend. Our morning coffee, whether it’s part of a routine or a weekend indulgence, certainly deserves a little treat with it. And what could be better than freshly made, warm doughnuts from your own kitchen? This recipe takes simple refrigerated biscuits and transforms them into gourmet bakery-style treats, bringing that exact “million-calorie” flavor right into your home with surprising ease and a whole lot of deliciousness.

Essential Ingredients for Your Homemade Doughnuts

Gathering your ingredients is the exciting first step towards creating these delightful treats. Many of these items are likely already in your pantry or easily found at your local grocery store, but each plays a crucial role in the magic:

  • Refrigerated Biscuits (Original, 8-count): The true hero of our easy doughnut base! Opt for original, flaky style biscuits. They fry up beautifully to create that desirable fluffy doughnut texture without any of the fuss associated with making dough from scratch.
  • Cream Cheese (8 oz): This forms the rich, tangy heart of our cheesecake filling. It’s vital that your cream cheese is softened to room temperature before you begin mixing to ensure a perfectly smooth, lump-free filling. Using full-fat cream cheese will yield the best richness and creamy texture.
  • White Granulated Sugar (1/4 cup): Provides the perfect touch of sweetness to our cheesecake filling, beautifully balancing the tanginess of the cream cheese.
  • Sour Cream (2 Tbsp) & Heavy Whipping Cream (2 Tbsp, for filling): These two ingredients are key to achieving a truly luxurious, creamy consistency and a subtle, delightful tang in the cheesecake filling, making it wonderfully smooth and easy to pipe.
  • Powdered Sugar (3/4 cup) & Heavy Whipping Cream (2 1/2 Tbsp, for glaze): These are the simple components that come together to form our irresistible sweet glaze. This luscious coating not only adds a burst of sweetness but also acts as the perfect adhesive for our crunchy Oreo crumbles.
  • Oreo Cookies (10-12 cookies): The iconic chocolate sandwich cookies are crushed to create a flavorful, intensely chocolatey, and delightfully crunchy topping that undeniably defines the “Oreo” in our Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts.
  • Vegetable Oil (approx. 30 oz bottle): Essential for deep-frying the biscuits into perfectly golden, puffy doughnuts. Always choose an oil with a high smoke point, such as vegetable, canola, or peanut oil, for the best and safest frying results.

Crafting Your Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts: Expert Tips for a Perfect Batch

Making these decadent doughnuts is a truly joyful and rewarding process, and with just a few key tips, you’ll be able to achieve bakery-quality results every single time, even if you’re new to frying:

  • Mastering Oil Temperature: This is arguably the most critical step in achieving perfect fried doughnuts. Always use a reliable kitchen thermometer to maintain a consistent oil temperature between 340-350°F (170-175°C). If the oil is too cold, your doughnuts will absorb too much oil and become greasy. If it’s too hot, they will brown quickly on the outside before cooking through completely on the inside. Be prepared to adjust your stovetop heat as needed throughout the frying process to keep the temperature stable.
  • Avoid Overcrowding the Fryer: To ensure even cooking and to prevent a drastic drop in oil temperature, fry only 2-3 biscuits at a time. Overcrowding the pot will lower the oil temperature significantly, leading to soggy, poorly cooked doughnuts. Give each doughnut space to fry properly.
  • Work Efficiently with Biscuit Dough: Once you open the can of refrigerated biscuits, carefully separate them and be ready to begin frying almost immediately. The dough tends to puff up and cook relatively quickly, so having everything prepped and ready will make the process smoother.
  • The Magic of a Piping Bag for Filling: A piping bag fitted with a pastry filling tip is your best friend for neatly and efficiently injecting the creamy cheesecake mixture into your doughnuts. If you don’t have a specific filling tip, a small round tip can work, or you can simply snip a tiny corner off a sturdy zip-top bag to create a makeshift piping bag.
  • Cool Slightly Before Filling and Glazing: While you definitely want your doughnuts to be warm when you fill and glaze them, it’s important to let them cool for a couple of minutes on a wire rack first. This brief cooling period allows the doughnuts to set slightly and prevents the glaze from melting too quickly, ensuring the cheesecake filling remains firm and delightful.
  • Achieve Maximum Flavor with Double Dipping: For the most generous and delicious topping, first dip the top of each doughnut in the sweet glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Immediately after glazing, gently press the glazed side into the finely crushed Oreo cookies. This two-step process ensures a thick, even coating of both the sweet glaze and the wonderfully crunchy Oreo crumbles.
  • Finely Crushed Oreos are Best: For an optimal topping, ensure your Oreo cookies are finely crushed. A food processor is excellent for achieving this consistency quickly and evenly. Alternatively, you can place the cookies in a sturdy zip-top bag and crush them thoroughly with a rolling pin.
  • Streamline with Batch Frying and Assembly: To make the process smoother and more enjoyable, it’s often most efficient to fry all your doughnuts first, allow them to cool slightly on the wire rack, and then proceed with filling and glazing them in batches. This approach helps to streamline your workflow and ensures consistent results.

Creative Variations for Your Doughnut Adventures

While the classic Oreo Cheesecake Doughnut recipe is pure perfection, don’t hesitate to unleash your inner pastry chef and get creative with variations:

  • Alternate Cookie Crumble: Instead of Oreos, try Nilla Wafers, graham crackers, or even different flavored Oreos like Mint or Golden Oreos for the topping.
  • Fruity Fillings: Experiment with a vibrant berry compote (strawberry, raspberry), lemon curd for a zesty kick, or even a caramel drizzle inside for a different flavor profile.
  • Chocolate Lover’s Dream: Add a final drizzle of melted dark or white chocolate over the glazed and Oreo-topped doughnuts for an extra layer of decadence and visual appeal.
  • Spiced Doughnuts: Infuse a warm, comforting flavor by adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg directly to your biscuit dough before frying.

Storing Your Delicious Homemade Doughnuts

These Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts are truly at their best when enjoyed fresh, ideally on the very same day they are made. The flavors are most vibrant and the textures are perfect. However, if you find yourself with a few delightful leftovers, here’s how to store them:

  • Room Temperature: For short-term storage, you can keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 day. Be aware that the glaze might soften slightly, but they will still be wonderfully delicious.
  • Refrigeration: For slightly longer storage, you can place your doughnuts in an airtight container and refrigerate them for up to 2-3 days. The cheesecake filling will firm up when chilled. For the best experience, allow them to come to room temperature for about 15-20 minutes before serving, or give them a very quick, gentle warm-up in the microwave for a few seconds.
  • Freezing (Plain Doughnuts Only): While freezing filled and glazed doughnuts is not ideal due to changes in texture, you can freeze plain fried doughnuts (before filling and glazing) for up to 1 month. To do this, let them cool completely, then place them in a single layer on a baking sheet to freeze solid before transferring them to an airtight freezer bag. When ready to enjoy, thaw them at room temperature, then proceed with filling and glazing as desired.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts

Can I bake these doughnuts instead of frying?
While you can certainly bake refrigerated biscuits, the resulting texture will be more akin to a baked scone or roll rather than a traditional fluffy and slightly chewy doughnut. For that authentic, light, and airy doughnut experience, deep-frying is highly recommended.
My oil is smoking; what should I do?
If your frying oil begins to smoke, it indicates that it is too hot. Immediately and carefully remove the pot from the heat source and allow the oil to cool down to the desired temperature range (340-350°F or 170-175°C) before continuing to fry. Never leave hot oil unattended.
Can the cheesecake filling be prepared in advance?
Absolutely! The cheesecake filling can be prepared a day in advance. Simply store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to fill your doughnuts, allow the mixture to come to room temperature slightly, or give it a gentle whisk or beat to soften it before transferring it to your piping bag.
What type of oil is best for frying these doughnuts?
For deep-frying doughnuts, it’s best to use oils with a high smoke point and a neutral flavor. Excellent choices include vegetable oil, canola oil, and peanut oil. These oils will ensure your doughnuts cook beautifully without imparting any unwanted flavors.

These Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts are more than just a recipe; they are an invitation to create a moment of pure joy and indulgence, whether it’s for a quiet morning coffee, a special family treat, or a celebration with friends. Get ready to impress your taste buds and those of your loved ones with this truly irresistible homemade creation!

Equipment

  • About 30 oz bottle of vegetable oil for frying
  • Fryer or a Dutch Oven with a meat thermometer

Ingredients

  • 16.3 oz Package of original refrigerated biscuits (8 count)
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup white granulated sugar
  • 2 Tbsp sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream (for filling)
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream (for glaze)
  • 10-12 Oreo cookies, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat oil in a fryer, Dutch oven, or a medium sauce pot to 340-350°F (170-175°C). (If using a pot on a stove top, a medium setting is recommended.)
  2. In a bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, sour cream, and 2 Tbsp of heavy cream for 2-3 minutes until smooth and creamy. Transfer this cheesecake mixture into a piping bag fitted with a pastry filling tip. Set aside.
  3. Finely chop the Oreo cookies and place them into a wide, shallow bowl. Set aside.
  4. In another wide and shallow bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and 2 1/2 Tbsp of heavy cream until a smooth glaze forms. Set aside.
  5. Open the can of refrigerated biscuits and carefully separate each biscuit. Fry the biscuits, 2-3 at a time, until they are golden brown on one side. Flip them over and fry until the other side is also golden brown.
  6. Once cooked, use tongs to remove the doughnuts from the oil and place them on a wire rack lined with paper towels underneath to drain excess oil and cool.
  7. Allow the doughnuts to cool for a couple of minutes until they are warm but not hot. Then, carefully insert the pastry filling tip into the side of each doughnut and fill with some cheesecake mixture from the piping bag.
  8. Immediately after filling, dip the top of each doughnut into the prepared glaze, allowing any excess to drip off. Then, gently press the glazed side into the finely crushed Oreo cookies to coat.
  9. Repeat the filling, glazing, and topping process for all remaining doughnuts. Serve warm and enjoy your homemade Oreo Cheesecake Doughnuts!
